The Swoosh Cup was made for my Mold Making for Ceramics mid-term project.
I was to make a “bowl” using a plaster positive. During my ideation phase I found that I liked the look of the negative space in the cup through the handle. To do this I made a rough pink foam model where I could create this space and attach a handle more easily. I made a mold from this and casted my plaster positive for the final mold. By making my positive this way I was able to obtain the negative space in the handle and create a quality plaster positive for the final mold. I created a 3 part mold so that I the lip of the cup could be controlled. Once the mold was made it was simply a matter of firing and glazing the parts for production. Over 25 porcelain cups were made.
